Elizabeth Willow (Artist’s Member Selection)
Elizabeth Willow (Artist’s Member Selection) / Thursday 1st August 2019 - Saturday 31st August 2019
In the Window: Glimpses and Reflections
Elizabeth Willow makes intricate things from gathered materials, including words, ink, thread, dust, and found objects both natural and unnatural.
Most often she works with paper, using bookbinding, printmaking and collage to create artist’s books and ephemera, sculptural objects and installations.
She is inspired by the nature of objects and materials, by their physical and functional qualities and by the marks and alterations of time, elements and usage, when materials become fragile or fragmented, when objects lose their original purpose and become something else. Her work also draws upon the symbolic qualities of particular materials and objects, how they act as repositories for meaning and memory, how we touch and are touched by them.
In the windows, Elizabeth will show new work made from paper and glass, exploring ways of seeing through and into, creating openings and apertures, glimpses and reflections.
