The National Gallery Company and Peter Layton launch the Van Gogh Sunflowers series in celebration of Peter’s 80th Birthday. Hand blown in Peter Layton’s studio, this sumptuous range is the glass artist’s personal interpretation of what he considered to be the essence of the original.
A selection of these new designs will be available from Friday 8th September at selected galleries, including Bluecoat Display Centre, across the UK.
Peter Layton commented ‘I regard Van Gogh as one of the greatest painters of all time, so being asked by the National Gallery to interpret in glass, his Sunflowers, one of the world’s most iconic paintings, has been both enormously challenging and extremely rewarding. To also have the opportunity to exhibit this new Sunflower series at the National Gallery is a source of great pleasure for me.’
Peter Layton has been at the forefront of British glassblowing since the 1970s and in the last 40 years scores of talented glassmakers have worked under his tutelage, producing successful collaborative projects and individual works of glass art.
