I am interested in responding to themes linked to people’s lives in order to create contemplative ceramic artworks. My first body of work ‘Presence through Absence’ explored my fascination with people’s everyday lives and activities. I was interested in capturing snapshots that conveyed a sense of stillness, absence of presence and being the outsider looking in. I aimed to translate this interest through ceramic forms which conveyed the volume and depth of darkness.
I create slab built ceramic forms that are contemplative rather than functional using clay as a medium for drawing and printing. I use various mono-printing techniques and inlayed porcelain on the surface of the work.
