Emmanuel Cooper

Ceramicist / London

I make bowls and jugs by throwing, cutting and manipulating clay, mainly in porcelain, and maintaining a neat, exact approach. I have also worked on more abstract forms. I am very interested in rich and brightly coloured glazes such as green, turquoise, yellow and pink to name but a few. I find inspiration from the work of artists such as Donald Judd and Barnett Newman. My work also alludes to Oriental and European ceramic traditions The works can be used and are functional but can equally be admired in terms of their design. My work has been exhibited at the V&A Gallery in London.

I trained at Hornsey College of Art and set up my own pottery in 1963 in London.
