COLLECT at the Saatchi Gallery

Friday 11th May - Monday 14th May

The Bluecoat Display Centre are delighted to have been selected to show at COLLECT 2012, the Crafts Council's prestigious contemporary applied art fair, at the Saatchi Gallery in London from May 11 - 14.

The Display Centre have approached the following artists and asked them to explore the theme of the heroic through a series of new works to be presented at COLLECT.

Ruth Ball, showing at COLLECT for the first time, will use this opportunity to produce an installation of multiple enamel panels to form a large wall piece in which she’ll explore heroes in science.

Michael Brennand-Wood will work in collaboration with the Tapestry Studio at West Dean to produce a tapestry that will be shown for the first time at COLLECT. Subject matter will include the hero as a warrior, formed from various textile components.

Halima Cassell will explore the heroic arts & crafts architecture of M.H. Baillie Scott. Taking this opportunity to present her first piece in cast glass alongside new work in porcelain and marble.

Stephen Dixon will expand his work on prisoners of conscience, looking at 3 Nobel Peace prize recipients who have been unable to attend the awards ceremony due to imprisonment for their beliefs.

Rebecca Gouldson will produce works in metal in response to heroic seafaring journeys. Utilising maritime archives, nautical charts and maps Rebecca will produce a series of wall-based panels.

Emma Rodgers identifies her heroes from Da Vinci to Darwin; people who have studied nature and through their innovation have shaped the modern world. New work will include ‘specimen pieces’ in resin and ‘taxidermy’ creatures under bell jars.

Paul Scott will expand upon his new series of work ‘Willow for WeiWei’ using ceramics from the golden age of industrial mass-production to make social statements on political prisoners.
