Tara Dean and Christy Keeney
Tara Dean and Christy Keeney / Saturday 5th September 2020 - Saturday 3rd October 2020
Shown for the first time together in this exhibition printmaker Tara Dean and ceramicist Christy Keeney are two artist makers who have drawing at the heart of their creative practices. The drawn line is prevalent in the work of both whether it is marks on paper translated into print or made directly into clay.
Christy Keeney studied ceramics at the Royal College of Art in London. His figurative ceramics is an investigation into the human condition, and his forms are stretched to the point where sculpture and drawing overlap.
After spending 17 years in London Christy Keeney returned to his native Donegal where he now lives and works. His sculpted slab built heads and figures demonstrate a wonderful sense of draughtmanship as details are drawn into the wet clay surface.
Tara Dean works with different layers using print as a starting point for the images she creates. She works with paint, paper stencils, recycled paper and, importantly, drawing – around which everything else revolves.
Tara takes her inspiration from places she has travelled to, particularly her own North Wales landscape, working from either original sketches or photographs.
