Name: Nawal Gebreel
‘My work is made individually by me using techniques that include fabric manipulation and screen-printing to produce very sculptural, 3D pieces. I use a variety of silks, silk-metallics, velvets and translucent manmade fabrics.
I have drawn inspiration from natural and geometric forms, Japanese shibori and paper-folding. I like to put my own interpretations and innovations in create a new design for each exhibition so that my work stays fresh.’
A graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University, she uses a variety of techniques to produce pieces of great originality and visual appeal. Nawal employs sumptuous fabrics and colours to luxurious effect.
Her work invites the wearer to explore the sculptural and dramatic possibilities that will enhance an outfit yet remain practical to wear. Nawal also lectures in art and textile design at colleges throughout the north west of England.
She has been selected to be an exhibitor for prestigious craft fairs in Britain and the United States. Nawal also sells her scarves to prestigious galleries and museum shops throughout the world.
